Oil Paintings by J.R. Bateson

J.R. Bateson has been gradually learning the craft of oil painting over the last 15 years, inspired by his mother's own meticulous approach to the subject. His oils focus largely on park life in south-east London — Brockwell Park in Brixton and Battersea Park in particular — where he finds the human activity and natural detail that drives his practice. As open space becomes increasingly scarce in London, parks have become vital to communities: people lack gardens, so they go to the park. Football, jogging, cycling, walled gardens, ponds — it is all here.
