John Bateson - artist
I am a freelance artist. Painting is in my blood. My mother, my grandmother and my grandfather were all keen painters, and it is they who encouraged my early attempts at art.
I have lived most of my adult life in Brixton in south east London. The brightness, bustle and colour of the immediate locality forms a back drop to a number of my paintings and prints
I see painting and printing as a form of exploration; you may have an idea where you are heading but you never quite know where you are going to end up. This is what makes the whole process so exciting.
Artists whose work I draw inspiration from include Fra Angelico, Rembrandt Samuel Palmer William Blake, Henri Matisse, and Vincent Van Gogh.
I am showing work at Our Lady of Sorrows church at
246 Fulham Road London SW10 9EL
